The passion of youth yearning for world peace and the cessation of war in the world was globally heated on the 25th.

About 200,000 youth from around the world participated in the International Youth World Peace Walk. The 2nd Annual Commemoration of Declaration of world peace was simultaneously celebrated on May 25 at 11am at the Seoul Olympic Park and in 17 other countries.

전쟁종식과 평화를 열망하는 세계 청년들의 열정이 25일 지구촌을 뜨겁게 달궜다. 전 세계 청년 20만 여명이 참여한 ‘세계평화선언문 발표 2주년 기념식 및 국제청년 평화 걷기대회’가 이날 오전 11시 서울 송파구 올림픽공원을 비롯한 국내외 17개국에서 동시에 열렸다.

Participating in this event held at the Seoul Olympic Park were Kang Doo Lee, former Korean assemblyman; Sang Sub Kang, the former mayor of South Korea's Uiwang City; Han Grae Lee, Korea's senior Islamic Imam; the head of a youth group from Nigeria; a university professor on Sikhism and more, with VIPs and members from Seoul and Kyunggi province of Korea totaling more than 30,000 people.

서울 올림픽공원에서 열린 본 행사엔 이강두 전 국회의원, 강상섭 전 의왕시장, 이행래 이슬람 원로 이맘, 나이지리아 청년대표, 시크교 대학교수 등 귀빈과 서울•경기지역 청년, 여성, 회원 3만여명이 참석했다.

This event was held by the Heavenly Culture of World Peace Restoration of Light (HWPL), chaired by Man Hee Lee who proclaimed the declaration of world peace at the Olympic Park on May 25th, 2013. The purpose of this meaningful event was to gather together and feel the meaning of the declaration of peace in our hearts.

하늘문화세계평화광복이 개최한 이날 행사는 이 대표가 2013년 5월 25일 올림픽공원에서 선포한 세계평화선언문의 의미를 되새기고 평화운동에 동참하자는 취지에서 마련됐다.

Chairman Man Hee Lee said that organizations in many cities, countries and national governments have established May 25th as the anniversary of an international peace celebration. We. the people of the world, should become a “Peace Family” and enthusiastically work together to promote global peace.

The peace summit was held for world peace and declared that the World Alliance of Religions and the enactment of an international law will accomplish world peace so that future generations will inherit peace and not war.

HWPL 이 대표는 기념사를 통해 “이 시간 세계 곳곳에서는 각국 시와 국회 및 각 단체들이 5월 25일을 평화의 기념일로 삼고 기념행사를 하고 있다”며 “평화의 가족 여러분들이 열심을 다해 온 지구촌이 함께 평화를 외치고 있는 것”이라고 말했다. 이어 “평화를 위해 만국회의가 열렸고 국제법 제정과 종교대통합을 선언하게 됐다”며 “평화 세계를 이뤄 후대에 ‘전쟁’이 아닌 ‘평화’를 유산으로 남기자”고 당부했다.

Chairman Lee participated in the event from Mindanao, Philippines, by attending an unveiling event of a monument and park dedicated to the declaration of world peace. The monument is meant to forever commemorate the recent peace agreement between Muslims and Catholics.

Mr. Man Hee Lee received a number of prizes of appreciation and effort for his mediation role in the ending of the 40 year dispute on Mindanao island in the Philippines last January.

이 대표는 같은 날 필리핀 민다나오에서 열린 평화공원 조성 및 세계평화선언문 기념비 제막 행사에 참석했다. 기념비는 가톨릭과 이슬람 간 평화 협약을 영원히 기념하기 위한 것이다. 이 대표는 지난해 1월 필리핀 민다나오섬의 40년 종교 분쟁을 종식시키는 데 결정적 중재 역할을 해 해외에서 수많은 감사장과 공로패를 받은 바 있다. 

The head of the International Women's Group and a supporter of the HWPL, Nam Hee Kim, urged the participation of leading political, economic, and religious leaders in the peace movement. She said that she couldn't believe the incredible achievements the peace movement has achieved worldwide over the last two years.

HWPL 산하 기관인 세계여성평화그룹(IWPG) 김 대표는 “2년 만에 이룬 성과라고는 믿기지 않을 만큼 평화의 물결이 거세게 일고 있다”면서 “우리 함께 평화운동을 촉구해 정치, 경제, 종교 지도자들을 선두로 이끌어 내자”고 촉구했다.

After the commemoration speeches of the two group leaders, the speeches of the VIPs followed, and the head of International Youth Peace Group finished the event. Gang Doo Lee, a former assemblyman and current Chairman of the National Development Policy Institute, said that although North Korea is so close that we could walk there, due to the reality of the DMZ at Korea’s 38th parallel, we cannot travel there.

Regarding the reunification of Korea, he also said that we had gathered to unite the nation and must continue working towards that day. He said that unification would be achieved in the near future.

Senior Imam Hang rae Lee of the Korean Muslim Federation believes in the reality that Chairman Man Hee Lee will play a main role in the accomplishment of world peace and achieving the goal of the cessation of war. He also said that he will do his best, along with other Islamic people, to achieve peace in the world in conjunction with Chairman Lee.

두 대표의 기념사 후에는 귀빈들의 축사와 국제청년평화그룹 소속 단체장의 연설이 이어졌다. 이강두 전 국회의원은 “3.8선에 막혀 북한까지 걷고 싶어도 걸을 수 없는 게 우리의 현실”이라며 “한국의 통일, 그날을 향해 이 자리에 모인 우리는 계속 걸어야 한다. 통일은 머지않아 실현될 것”이라고 밝혔다.

한국이슬람교 중앙회 원로 이행래 이맘도 “이만희 대표를 주축으로 전 세계인들이 평화를 이루기 위해 한마음 한뜻이 된다면 전쟁종식과 세계평화는 곧 현실이 될 것이라고 믿는다”면서 “전 세계 이슬람교인들이 이 대표와 평화를 이루어 가는 일에 함께할 수 있도록 최선을 다할 것”이라고 말했다.

Woodem Etim, the head of Korea's Nigerian Student Union, spoke about when he was a child and how he used to ask himself about how to make world peace. He found the answer in last year's 2014 peace summit.

Della Endleskoba (22, Female, Czech Republic) came to Korea as an exchange student and participated in this event held in Seoul to help further the peace movement. She said that the international legislative movement to ban war was a good idea to achieve peace in a practical way.

나이지리아 학생 연합 대표인 우뎀 에팀은 “어렸을 때부터 평화로운 세계를 만들기 위해 무엇이 필요한지 스스로에게 묻곤 했다”며 “지난 만국회의가 그 답을 얻는 자리였다”고 소감을 전했다. 한국에 교환학생으로 왔다가 이번 행사에 참석한 델라 엔드리스코바(22, 여, 체코슬로바키아)는 “전쟁을 끝낼 국제법 제정을 목표로 하는 평화운동이 서울에서 열린다고 해서 오게 됐다”며 “전쟁금지법안 입법화 운동은 너무 좋은 생각이고 꼭 이뤄져야 할실질적인 방안이라고 생각한다”고 말했다.

After the performance for peace, a vigorous peace walk was held. Through a ceremonial picket of protocol officers who lined the street, a marching band, a detachment of traditional Korean ceremonial guards and musicians, VIPs, youth and people from many nations marched down the street in an orderly fashion. 

Many young people who participating in the march displayed unique signs that included peace messages to the crowd.

평화를 위한 퍼포먼스 후에는 본격적인 국제청년 평화 걷기대회가 열렸다. 피켓을 든 의전을 따라 군악대, 취타대, 농악대, 귀빈, 국내외 청년들이 질서정연한 모습으로 거리 행진을 했다. 특히 청년들은 평화 메시지가 담긴 이색적인 피켓을 들고 행진해 눈길을 끌었다.

Meanwhile, during this event, efforts were also made to help the victims of the earthquake in Nepal. Collected donations will be delivered to the Nepalese Embassy. Nepalese relief fundraising operations personnel member, Yoo Sehmi (25), said that the funds were gathered by the peace movement with great enthusiasm and that the HWPL members would also hold an event to write a cheering message.

한편 이날 행사장 한쪽에서는 부대행사로 네팔 지진 피해자를 돕기 위한 구호 모금이 진행됐다. 거둔 성금은 네팔 대사관에 전달될 예정이다. 네팔 구호 모금 운영담당자는 “모금과 함께 응원 메시지를 적는 행사도 하고 있다”며 “평화운동을 위해 모인 만큼 관심이 뜨겁다”고 전했다.

This event was held simultaneously in 43 major overseas cities in the US, Sweden, Bulgaria, India, Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines.

이날 행사는 국내 주요 도시뿐 아니라 미국, 스웨덴, 불가리아, 인도, 태국, 캄보디아, 필리핀 등 해외 43곳 지부에서 동시에 진행됐다.
